Recycling and disposal in Stark, Tuscarawas and Wayne Counties

Each year, more than 12 million scrap tires are generated in the state of Ohio. Many of these tires eventually end up in large scrap tire stockpiles, abandoned in warehouses or dumped along roadsides and in rural areas. These scrap tires are a serious environmental and public health threat because of the potential for fire and because tires hold water which serves as ideal breeding grounds for disease-carrying mosquitoes.

Landfills do not accept whole tires for disposal, but there are multiple options for properly disposing of residents’ automotive tires. If you are purchasing new tires through a tire dealer, check and see if the dealer will dispose of the unwanted tires. Tires are also accepted at various locations for recycling.
