Changes in Recycling Rules bring Changes in the District
Over the last year or so, the recycling world has been adjusting to a shock wave sent to the markets by China’s “National Sword Policy.” This policy has directly affected the way we communicate how to recycle and what we recycle. The Stark-Tuscarawas-Wayne Solid Waste Management District, in partnership with the Ohio EPA and the Kimble Company, presented a plan to address contamination in our bins and illegal dumping at our sites.
The Ohio EPA award the Stark-Tuscarawas-Wayne Recycling District a $100,000 grant to assist our efforts to bring a clearer message to the public on recycling. The District, along with our drivers, Master Recyclers, input from the public and our vendors, developed our new labels and signs. Working with our Environmental Enforcement Deputies (EED), we were able to create some of the signs below.
By the June of 2020, the District and Kimble will completely revamp our 4 largest sites in Tuscarawas County. Some have already been completed (New Philadelphia Buehlers, Dover Buehlers, Mill Twp). Make sure you take a moment to read the labels to reduce contamination. No plastic bags or garbage bags are allowed in the bins. Signs have been erected at Mill Twp and New Philadelphia Buehlers. As we move through this grant season, more and more will be popping up. Stay tuned!
New cameras, lighting, bins and labels have been placed at Diamond Park (Plain Twp, Stark County). This will help assist our EED to provide the enforcement necessary to go after illegal dumpers. A new site at the Fire Station on Easton (Plain Twp, Stark County) is going in at the moment. The concrete pad, fencing, lighting and cameras are installed. Bins and labels will soon be at the site and open for the public to use.
